Asta is the main protagonist of the Black Clover franchise.
Having been born without the ability to use normal magic, he's a wielder of the 5-leaf clover grimoire, and is thus able to use a type of demonic power, known as Anti Magic, which as the name suggests, allows him to cut through, nullify, or deflect any kind of magic spell via the use of anti-magic swords that are stored in his grimoire. Asta is a member of the magic knight squad, the Black Bulls, and one of the Royal Knights. He's a 1st Class Senior Magic Knight who is aiming to become the next Wizard King.
Asta is voiced by Gakuto Kajiwara in Japanese, and by Dallas Reid in English.
He is always putting his life on the line to protect his friends and innocent people from dangerous threats such as the Eye of the Midnight Sun and the Dark Triad.
Despite his inability to use regular magic, he refuses to give up easily and is an inspiration to many people around him.
His main motive for wanting to become the Wizard King is so he can protect everyone in the Clover Kingdom, and create a country where everyone is treated equally.
Despite being bullied for his lack of magic throughout his childhood, Asta doesn't hate the people and wishes to protect them.
He always tries to see the good in others, even his enemies.

After Mars changed sides, Asta accepted his help after seeing his good nature.

Despite understandably not forgiving Patolli for his near-genocide of the Clover Kingdom and the murder of Julius Novachrono, Asta convinced him to atone for his crimes, which Patolli takes to heart, leading to his redemption.
Defeated Zagred and stopped him from escaping the Shadow Palace and wrecking havoc on the world.

While Liebe threatened him and Nacht to forcibly possess him to enact vengeance upon the underworld, Asta refused to see him as a monster and befriended him, changing Liebe for the better.
Together with the Magic Knights Captains and the Black Bulls he goes to the Spade Kingdom to save Yami and William Vengeance from the Dark Triad.
He briefly helps Noelle in the fight with Megicula, apologizing for not being able to do much. Noelle internally thanks him for giving her even more motivation to keep going.
In the fight with Lucifero he tells the King of Devils he is also fighting for Liebe's sake, not caring of origins or ranking of his partner. He also declares Lucifero won't hurt any innocent
After the fight is over, he thanks Liebe for showing him his memories with Licita (Asta's biological mother) admitting that knowing their mother loved him made him really happy.
Despite earlier having a crush on Sister Lily and being eager to propose to her, Asta took Sister Lily's final rejection well and doesn't pursue her anymore, understanding her viewpoint.
He has an incredibly strong sense of justice, where although he usually doesn't mind much if people talk poorly about him, he despises those who disrespect his friends, or harm the innocent.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
He can be short-tempered when someone makes fun of him or underestimates him, such as when he tells the entrants at the Magic Knights Exam to shut up. However, seeing as how he's only defending himself from those who belittle him, this is highly understandable, making this a minor prevention.
He has a sarcastic side when defending himself, which can make him come off as a bit rude, Although this is usually played for comedy, and rarely meant to be taken seriously, making this another minor prevention.
