I owe the Golden Path for rescuing me, but honestly, I'm just... I'm just here to scatter my mother's ashes.
~ Ajay Ghale.

Ajay Ghale is a major protagonist of the Far Cry video game series.

He is the main protagonist of the 2014 video game Far Cry 4, its DLC Valley of the Yetis, a mentioned character in Far Cry 5, and a cameo character in Far Cry 6, where he is a supporting antagonist of its DLC - Pagan: Control. He is also the unseen overarching protagonist of Far Cry New Dawn.

Ajay is a native of the fictional Kyrat region of the Himalayas who, after having moved to America at a young age, returns to his home after the death of his mother, Ishwari. Ajay vows on the ashes of his mother to bring peace to war-torn Kyrat, with his main goal being to pick up where his deceased parents left off, by overthrowing the brutal dictator Pagan Min and his army.

He was voiced by James A. Woods.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • While he may have killed several enemy soldiers, most of his kills were justified, since the Royal Army tends to be very aggressive and use unwarranted lethal force on innocent civilians. Additionally, in free-roam, they immediately open fire on Ajay unprovoked, making Ajay's lethal response fall under self-defense.
  • Although he makes a few morally-questionable decisions, such as helping Amita and Sabal in their selfish affairs throughout the game, he only does so only under duress, since he no longer has allies in Kyrat, and in the end he is disgusted by their cruel actions.
    • Likewise, killing or sparing Pagan, Amita, Sabal and Noore depend on the player's choice, and they do not count as preventions since Ajay is forced to choose a side of the conflict, otherwise he could have everyone turn against him, resulting in more death and destruction.
  • In the alternate ending of the game, Ajay stays for Pagan's dinner and later leaves with him to spread his mother's ashes, completing the story without committing any heroic acts. However, this ending is dubiously canon and does not take away from the heroic deeds he commits if he completes the main story as intended.

Far Cry 4[]

  • Prior to the game’s story, he was involved in an armed robbery gone wrong, during which a store clerk was killed. Ajay felt remorse for this, and turned himself in to the police and confessed to them who killed this dealer.
  • He tracked from America to Kyrat by way of India to fulfill his mother’s final wish and to spread her ashes.
  • When Darpan was captured by de Pleur, Ajay attempted to save him.
  • He joined the Golden Path to stop Pagan Min’s dictatorship.
  • He saves the girl Bhadra, who almost burned down in a fire, after which she was supposed to be appointed the new Tarun Matara.
  • He also saved many innocent prisoners, including innocent women who were forced into sexual slavery.
  • He saved the sacred statues of Kira from the Royal Army.
  • During this rebellion, he also rescued many captive slaves from the Royal Army.
  • He tried to save the Noore family, who was being held hostage by de Pleur.
  • He saved a lot of captive residents from torture de Pleur.
  • He didn’t kill de Pleur, instead capturing him and returning him captive to the Golden Path.
  • He Destroyed (or seized) a drug production plant, thereby putting an end to their production on the territory of Kyrat.
  • He helped agent Willis Huntley eliminate the CIA agents, thinking that he was killing Yuma's assistants.
  • He killed Yuma and thereby prevented her cruel and painful torture of prisoners.
  • He saved the holy temple from destruction, thereby not undermining the Kyrat tradition.
  • Depended on the player's choice:
    • He did not kill Noore, but tried to talk to her, and even expressed his condolences to her about the death of her family, thereby showing his compassion for her.
    • He didn't kill Amita/Sabal, when he was told, but only released her/him.
    • In the end, he talked to Pagan Min, and did not kill him, and then let him go, having fulfilled his mother's last wish before that.
  • He destroyed all the Rakshasas and saved Shangri-La from them.
  • In the end, it was thanks to him that Kyrat was saved from the tyranny of Pagan Min.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He killed Yuma in a fit of rage after she insulted his mother. While she certainly deserved it because of her crimes (and Ajay was tasked with killing her anyway), this was a rare occasion of Ajay killing someone out of spite.
  • He has a few jerkish moments, such as when he responded, “F*ck you!" to Noore when she offered him cooperation. He also rudely replied to Pagan during their peaceful dinner. Although, it was understandable since Pagan essentially kidnapped him.
