James Darrell Edwards III, better known as Agent J or Jay, is one of the two main protagonists, alongside Agent K, of the Men in Black franchise. He is an agent of the MiB, after being recruited by Agent K. He is energetic, and tries to bring life and emotion back to the bland organization.
He was portrayed by Will Smith who also played Oscar in Shark Tale.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- He is a very experienced and brave MiB agent who is able to bravely fight alien invaders to protect the innocent and sometimes the whole world from them. And although he is slightly less experienced than Agent K, in his absence, he is the most competent MiB agent.
- He is very loyal to his partner, Agent K, and always saved him from danger when he needed it, and was even ready to go back in time to prevent his murder.
Men In Black (1997)[]
- Being an ordinary policeman, he tracked down a suspicious alien, and chased him in the hope of arresting him, and when he was about to commit suicide, J tried to save him, to no avail. This attracted the attention of Agent K, who recruited him into the MiB agency.
- He proved to be the most competent of the candidates to study for admission to the MiB agency, and that is why he was chosen as a new MiB agent.
- Becoming Agent K's new partner, he, along with Agent K, managed to defeat several alien intruders.
- Together with Agent K and Laurel Weaver, he killed the Bug, thereby preventing it from destroying the Earth.
Men In Black II[]
- He stopped a Giant Alien Worm, Jeff, and saved a lot of innocent people from him, whom he could have eaten along with the wagon.
- After Serleena took over the entire MiB building, he recruited Agent K to restore his memory of his agent's life and get his help in the battle against Serleena.
- After falling in love with a girl, Laura Vasquez (who later turned out to be the daughter of the Zarthan princess, Lauranna, and a living artifact called the "Light of Zartha"), he refused to erase her memory and began to protect her from Serleena.
- Even during severe torture, he refused to hand over Agent K.
- After restoring Agent K's memory, he and Agent K freed the MiB building from Serleena's accomplices.
- Together with Agent K, he sent Laura to Zartha and destroyed Serleena, thereby saving the planets Earth and Zarth.
Men In Black 3[]
- Together with Agent K, he killed many alien criminals in a Chinese restaurant.
- He went back in time to 1969 to prevent the murder of an Agent K by the dangerous alien, Boris the Animal.
- He was trying to save Boris the Animal's victims.
- When he met a young version of Agent K, he tried to persuade him not to arrest Boris, but to kill him so that K could survive in the future.
- Together with Agent K, he saved the Archanan, Griffin, from Boris the Animal.
- He managed to kill both versions of Boris in the past and launch the Arc Net, thereby protecting the entire Earth from the invasion of Boglodites and preventing the death of Agent K in the future.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He is a bit arrogant, and tends to tease and insult his enemies often. Also, when he was not happy with his new partner, Agent T, he willingly erased his memory, forcing him to forget their joint work.
- He is a bit lethal, as he has no problem killing aliens who show resistance.
